Weekend Ride

Description:
The "Green Machine" is my first car. I bought it for six hundred bucks my sophomore year of high school and have been driving it ever since. I started restoring it by fixing something everytime it would break... after awhile it ended up having a lot of new parts and being a pretty nice car. It was my daily driver for several years, but now I pretty much just cruise in it on the weekends.

Engine :
Rebuilt single port stock 1600 engine w/ new solex 34 pict carb. I rebuilt the engine myself, and replaced all the parts with the new ones that came with the rebuild kit. I also refinished the sheathing all around the engine compartment with flat black paint. It has a number of new parts including alternator, fuel pump, intake manifold, performance air filter, valves, and push-rod tubes.
Ignition:
I put in a new Bosch 009 distributor with new wires and plugs, and installed the Compufire Ignition System.
Exhaust:
I put on headers and started off with the standard muffler that connects to the headers and hangs down off the back of the car. It sounded good, but I had a lot of problems with this muffler since it would constantly knock and scratch against the ground.

Transaxle:
I am running a rebuilt stock tranny (4 speed) that I installed a couple of years ago. Nothing fancy, but more than adequate for my needs. I also replaced the shifter bushings, and installed an Empi shifter. This, combined with adjusting the shift linkage, reduced a lot of slop and makes the shifting much tighter still to this day.
Suspension:
Rebuilt the front suspension with a new front beam, new ball joints, and G2 gas shocks. The shocks make for a slightly bumpier ride, although they improve the overall handling of the car. I did a 2 1/2 inch drop in the front with lowered spindles from CB performance. I hope to eventually go with a narrowed front beam and an adjustable front suspension, possibly air ride.

Wheels / Tires:
I have the stock style of rims for 1970 that I have repainted with chrome paint and clear-coated. I found that the chrome paint does not last long on its own, so the clear coat has really helped the durability. I am running Kumho 145/15 tires on the front for a little more of a drop and the original 165/15 size in the back.
Interior:
New tan headliner and carpet kit from tmi interiors. I recovered the door panels to make them the matching tan color and have black seat covers.
Body / Exterior:
I removed the chrome strips running along the doors and side body, along with the one over the storage compartment. I shaved the fenders, and removed the reflectors on the sides of the rear taillights.
